KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 28 (Bernama) -- Selangor MCA Public Services and Complaints Bureau deputy chairman Kelvin Chong Seng Foo lodged a police report today over threats of harm against him if he continues to distribute the 1Malaysia People's Aid (BR1M) forms.
Chong, who is also the coordinating officer for the Kampung Tunku state constituency, made the report at the Seapark police station in Petaling Jaya at 9.40 am.
"I was threatened five times on the same day and ordered not to distribute the forms to the people, particularly in the Petaling Jaya area," he said of the threats he had received by SMS on Dec 24.
"I was threatened not to drive as I would be involved in an accident," he told reporters at the compound of the Seapark police station.
Chong said he felt that the threats were the work of the opposition and regarded them as an attempt to foil the government's measures to help the people.
He said the people can collect the forms from the mobile service centre operating twice a week in the Kampung Tunku and Damansara Utama areas or at the MCA service centre in Jalan 21/17, Seapark.
"Many people, especially from among the Chinese community, do not know about this aid and some are afraid they may fill the form wrongly. I hope they can come and meet me and anyone else at the service centres," he said.
Selangor MCA Public Services and Complaints Bureau chairman Datuk Theng Book said the distribution of the forms would continue and the threats would not stop them from doing so.
"The Public Services and Complaints Bureau of Selangor MCA, through Kelvin, Datuk CK Lim and myself, have distributed about 5,000 copies of forms to the people. The people have been asking for the forms and we, as social workers, are helping them to fill the form and submit it to the government," he said.
When tabling the 2012 budget in parliament in October, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak announced a one-off RM500 aid for each household earning RM3,000 or less a month.
The registration for the BR1M aid began on Dec 10 and would end on Jan 10.
