On Petronas
Rafizi: Where did the RM235 bn paid by Petronas over the period of 2004-2008 go? How much was spent on education? Awarded to Cronies?

Our response:
● First of all, the sum is RM235 bn and not RM273 bn.
● Monies earned by Government are channelled to treasury fund for Government to manage, irrespective of whether they are from Petronas or other sources. However, for purposes of comparison, RM137.1bn was spent on education or about 58.2% of Petronas’s contribution.
● We are very committed in educational investment, on average about 6% of GDP is spent on this sector or about 18% of the whole government budgeted expenditure.
● The period of 2004-2008 is also the time that the Government spend an annual average of RM27.4 bn on education alone, that is the highest ever from 1957 to 2005. From 2006 and above, the Government spend more than RM30 bn a year for this.
● But it is not just about education, during the same period RM74.9 bn was spent on subsidies, RM100 bn to pay back our loan, RM151.5 on public servant salaries and RM38.2 bn for pensioners.
● Is Rafizi saying that all rakyat who travel using cheaper petrol and do the cooking with subsidised cooking oil as cronies? Is Rafizi calling the whole students who benefitted from Government’s spending on tuition fees subsidies as cronies? Is Rafizi calling all government servants and pensioners as cronies? Is Rafizi calling all of our international lenders as cronies?

● Sasaran 10 tahun ETP sudah ditentukan dengan jelas : RM1.4 trilion pelaburan bagi menjana Pendapatan Negara Kasar (PNK) sebanyak RM1.7 trilion dan mewujudkan 3.3 juta jawatan penting menjelang 2020, daripada jumlah itu, 60 peratus adalah peluang pekerjaan untuk peringkat pendapatan pertengahan dan tinggi.
● Ini diterjemahkan sebagai PNK perkapita US$15,000 dan melonjakkan Malaysia sebagai negara berstatus berpendapatan tinggi.
● Ia juga mensasarkan pengurangan jurang pelaburan-simpanan daripada 12 peratus point pad 2010 kepada 2 peratus point pada 2020.
